ACIM Lesson 167: There is one life and that I share with God.
There is one life and that I share with God.
Life, like the truth, has no opposites. It merely is.
Death, therefore, does not exist.
And so, the Course tells me, “The opposite of life can only be another form of life” albeit in a different form.
To ‘die’ as we understand is merely to fall asleep. The body is only a suit of clothes that is dropped when its usefulness runs out.
And so my mind, which is one with God – because my mind is an idea in His mind – journeys on. It cannot ‘die’ or be destroyed. Why? Because what God is cannot die or be destroyed.
That is very comforting to know.
Even at the end of this existence, or even just in a challenging situation where I feel in over my head, the seeming death is not real.
It is merely the illusion that I am somehow separate from God. This, the Course tells me, is my only problem here on earth.
God doesn’t understand death any more than he understands the problems our collective consciousness have created. This could be a belief in illness. It could be panic when I’m asked to do something I don’t know how to do. Any one of the potentially hundreds of ‘deaths’ I could allow myself to experience on any given day.
Enough, then, of this nonsense! The next time a ‘death’ seems to arise to trouble me I will immediately clean with the key words of Ho’oponopono:
I love you. I’m sorry. Forgive me. Thank you.
… and remind myself that God is real. I am an idea in His mind, the only mind there is and therefore I am real. My body is a wonderful instrument and device I can use during my time here to experience a good meal, the wind in my face, the sun on my back, the friendship and company of ‘others’… but it is not truly who I am. I am the mind I share with God.
I will remember today that life merely is and as a result there is ultimately nothing to worry about. Challenges will slowly melt away as I remember:
“There is one life and that I share with God. I love you, I’m sorry, Forgive me, Thank you.”
