Introduction to the ACIM / Ho’oponopono Challenge!
Aloha!
Welcome to this one year experiment to explore the cross-overs between two of my favourite spiritual practices: A Course in Miracles (ACIM) and Ho’oponopono.
It has become increasingly clear to me that whilst they use different language, the key concepts are similar. And from my perspective, Ho’oponopono is the ‘secret’ behind ACIM. In fact, as far as I’m concerned, it’s the secret behind The Secret. If you watched that movie and/or read the book, did what you were told and then wondered why things weren’t working out… perhaps Ho’oponopono has the answer?
The ACIM workbook, which forms the basis of this challenge, helps us move from a thought pattern based on fear to one based on love. It speaks of forgiveness as your only function here and there are many references to the Atonement.
In a similar vein, Ho’oponopono also invites us to focus on love. It is an ancient Hawaiian practice which translates as: to make right. Like ACIM, it is a way of petitioning Divinity for forgiveness. Ho’oponopono invites us to take 100% responsibility for whatever and whoever is going on in our lives. If you’re aware of it, at any level, you created it at some level and so, if you don’t much care for it – and even if you do – there is nothing better than to clean on the situation in order to let go of the memories that attach you to that situation or person.
The easiest way to clean is to simply repeat the four key phrases of Ho’oponopono:
I love you
I’m sorry
Please Forgive Me
Thank You
Don’t be fooled by how simple this sounds. Whilst Ho’oponopono goes way beyond these phrases, don’t underestimate the power in repeating ‘I love you’ silently on a tape loop in your mind… and I think the author of ACIM would agree! 😉
If you want to find out more about Ho’oponopono and see if it resonates with you, please take the time to read ‘Who’s in Charge‘, written by Dr Hew Len.
Before we start, a quick word on the language I’ll be using.
Because Ho’oponopono is about ME taking 100% responsibility for everything in my life, much of the following is written in the first person. There is really no need for you to do anything… unless you feel inspired to do so! As long as one of us is actively cleaning, it’ll all be fine – as ACIM would say: ‘a happy outcome to all things is sure’ (Lesson 292).
So, enjoy the process. And by all means follow along and do the Lessons. If you don’t have one already, you may want to get your own copy of ACIM. It’ll give you specific instructions for carrying out each Lesson. But if you don’t want to do that, I would suggest simply meditating on the Lesson for three-five minutes or so in the morning and evening and as often as you feel inspired to do so during the day. That’s it!
Every day I’ll post a new Blog with my thoughts on the day’s Lesson from a Ho’oponopono perspective. And as Inspiration moves me I might do some additional posts as ‘bonus extras’ along the way so keep checking back every day.
Most of all: Enjoy this process! This is not meant to be a chore. And no matter what… expect miracles! 😊
I’ll see you tomorrow!
