ACIM Lesson 1

Nothing I see in this room [on this street, from this window, in this place] means anything.

The reason it means nothing is because my thought about it is completely coloured and distorted by the memories I have about it – the ‘data’ that I hold in my subconscious, my own personal computer bank – about tables, doors, pens, lamps, shadows, hands… or anything else.

In and of itself, a door, pen, lamp, shadow or hand is perfect and meaningless. The trouble begins when I start assigning meaning to such things and then getting hung up on the labels I’ve given them, often without even questioning why I’ve labelled it, rather than just seeing the thing for what it is.

Like you and me when we are at peace with the world and Divinity, these innocuous items are ‘nothing’. They are perfect just as they are. We don’t even notice them. There is nothing to say.

But because in Ho’oponopono everything is alive – even a pen – and has an Identity of its own, I can use it to start cleaning my way back to zero, back to Divinity.

I will spend five minutes or so looking about me and as my eyes alight upon a table, door, pen, lamp, shadow, hand or whatever it may be, I will say to it:

This table does not mean anything

… and then silently repeat to it the key words of Ho’oponopono:

I love you

I’m sorry

Please Forgive Me

Thank You

… and then move on to the next item.

I don’t know why or how I am connected to that ‘thing’. I don’t even need to know. But Divinity does know and I am willing to ask for forgiveness and freedom from those connections so I can be free and my memories can be free too. Let me, in this New Year, bind nothing to myself.
